Among the many absolutely different types of yoga , hammock yoga, also called antigravity yoga or fly yoga, stands out. This is the most modern method of body development, which will help you find peace and completely relax. This practice is a unique opportunity to soar in the air right during the session. So, what is aero yoga and how are the workouts conducted?
What is special about it?
Aerial yoga was invented by an American choreographer named Christopher Harrison, who used hammocks in his Broadway productions. Over time, he began to notice that after the “flights” his well-being noticeably improved, so he began to use this method in his hobby - yoga. Interestingly, even the most unprepared person in a hammock can perform completely different asanas, including complex ones.

How does a session go?
The load is selected individually by an experienced trainer, so there is no need to worry that it will be too difficult or, conversely, too easy. First, several pranayamas are performed, swaying in the hammock. This way, you can concentrate on the practice and get rid of all extraneous and negative thoughts and attitudes. After warming up, you can proceed to a more intense load - first on the floor, but using a hammock, and then completely in it. Inverted asanas are considered the most pleasant, because it is after them that both physical and emotional well-being improves. However, the main condition for obtaining the expected result is a completely relaxed body. Otherwise, unpleasant consequences such as dizziness or even nausea cannot be avoided. And the antigravity yoga session ends with the so-called “corpse pose” or shavasana, the result of which will be complete relaxation.
Types of hammocks
To achieve the desired result, it is very important to choose the right hammock. They come in two types:
- a double-layered fabric;
- with additional devices, such as handles, inserts and stirrups for hands.
For performing some complex asanas, auxiliary devices, as well as soft inserts, which are equipped with some hammocks, will perfectly help. With their help, the fabric presses less on the body during training, which makes the practice even more comfortable.
Preparing for your first workout
In order to avoid discomfort, you need to choose the right clothes. Ideally, it would be a comfortable top or T-shirt and leggings made of elastic fabric. It is very important that nothing pulls or pinches, otherwise it will be quite difficult to relax and concentrate on the practice. Often people worry before their first workout that the trainer will immediately give such a load that they simply will not cope. But you don’t need to worry about this, because beginners are never offered to perform complex asanas, and they will also be told in detail how to use the hammock. In addition, the first workouts are devoted exclusively to breathing techniques and the ability to maintain balance. In summary, fly yoga is not only a useful, but also a pleasant practice that will help even the most stressed person to relax and feel significantly better both physically and emotionally.

This is the first time I've heard of this type of yoga and, frankly, it seems quite dangerous to me. Such activities require a fairly flexible spine, the absence of disorders in the brain, blood vessels, and blood pressure. In addition, before such classes, in my opinion, a very serious and lengthy warm-up is necessary... Interestingly, I have been practicing yoga for many years, it helped me recover psychologically and physically. I became much calmer and stronger. I read an interesting article about Hammock Yoga. I am interested. Yes, with any Yoga, you need to have no temperature, an empty stomach, and be psychologically healthy. What is needed in ordinary Yogas is to consult a doctor first, and here too. This yoga will be more pleasant for calming down, you will probably feel like a bird. I'm going to the doctor.
