Who Can Benefit from Jalandhara Bandha?

Modern life, influenced by stress, a busy rhythm, frequent moves, sudden climatic changes, tends to have a not always positive impact on human health. Yoga practices counteract this cycle. Unique Bandha complexes allow you to approach individual organs and parts of the body, affecting not only them but also the mental health of the practitioner. A component of the complex - jalandhara bandha is a powerful tool for interacting with your body.

What is it?

Jalandhara Bandha can be interpreted in different ways, but its essence lies in controlling the “conducting” pathways in the neck area. This is a kind of physiological password for a person’s interaction with the circulatory and nervous systems, as well as the pranic channel (the channel of subtle body energy).

Defining the practice as a lock located on the neck. It is able to block the respiratory tract and stimulate the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
This practice is used to treat throat diseases, slows down aging and prevents death. Yoga scriptures characterize this exercise as a deliverance from disappointments, discontent and bad thoughts.
Mastering this exercise is beneficial for everyone, as it carries many advantages, primarily from a physiological point of view. People suffering from chronic throat diseases, thyroid problems should pay close attention to Jalandhara Bandha.

Benefits

The strengths of the complex are:

  • calms the mind and balances the mind;
  • brings the nervous system into harmony;
  • stimulates the proper functioning of the thyroid gland through massage;
  • slows down aging processes in the body;
  • trains the muscles of the cervical spine;
  • gets rid of a double chin;
  • corrects throat diseases;
  • relieves anxieties caused by stress and reduces the possibility of their recurrence;
  • relieves anger and rage.

Contraindications

Despite all the benefits this system carries, there are also limitations in its use for people with:

  • hypertension and high intracranial pressure;
  • cardiovascular diseases;
  • inflammatory processes in the affected area;
  • tumors of this segment of the body (including thyroid tumors);
  • intervertebral hernias.

Technique

The essence of the technique lies in pressing the chin to the front surface of the neck. Before starting the practice, you need to choose a comfortable posture. Usually, the Padmasana posture is suitable for jalandhara bandha

  1. Eyes closed, mind relaxed.
  2. Take a deep breath and hold your breath.
  3. The head is tilted forward, the chin is pressed to the chest. If this is impossible (probably for beginners), the chin should be directed as far down as possible. This position should not cause pulling pains in the neck.
  4. Arms straight, torso slightly sagging on the arms. Facial muscles are relaxed, calmness inside the body. Focus on the cervical spine.
  5. Breath is held. The hold lasts as long as a person can, avoiding excessive tension.
  6. On the held breath, slightly relax the arms.
  7. Slowly raise your head, the neck is in a straight position, then exhale.
  8. Restore breathing, if necessary, and continue the practice. The exercise should not cause a feeling of lack of air.
    When practicing, it is worth remembering that it is better to use a shorter breath-holding time than to suffer from suffocation and lack of oxygen. This is not the goal of the practice.
    Don’t be afraid of a slight dizziness. Loss of consciousness is unacceptable – this can lead to serious consequences. You need to monitor your own feelings, the number of cycles performed should be oriented towards the quality and comfort of the body, but not the quantity.
    For beginners, the recommended number of repetitions is three to five times. For advanced practitioners up to 10 times. The number can be increased, as well as the time for which the body can freely hold its breath.
    According to yogic teachings, Jalandhara Bandha awakens hidden spiritual power, helps accumulate energy in 16 points of the body and manage it further. Mastering this exercise will not go unnoticed even for the most tired body, allowing it to renew and unleash its potential.
