Legend
It all started with the god of love, Kanadeva, wanting to get revenge on the god Shiva. But in an honest battle, the god of love could not win, so he decided to cheat, by renouncing Shiva’s faithful sacred sage. This sage lived and served Shiva in a beautiful forest. A seductive dancer came to this forest and settled near the place where the sage lived, and began to sing sweetly. The sage was distracted from his service and in a moment was captivated by her beauty. The sacred sage became so carried away by the dancer that he completely forgot about his service to the god Shiva and spent 6 decades with her, but for him all this time seemed like only a moment, she captivated him so much. When the dancer made sure that the sage had finally renounced his god, she asked to leave him and return home. And only at that moment did he realize how much time he had spent with her and how long he had not served Shiva. The sage became angry and cursed the dancer to turn into a witch. She was frightened and asked him to have mercy on her and cancel the curse. He relented and said that if she observed Papamochani Ekadashi, it would free her from being born as a witch. He himself also observed this sacred fast and restored his trust with the god Shiva.
