Maha Bandha is a component technique in Hatha Yoga and a key exercise from the four Bandhas necessary for influencing and improving the physical body.
What is it?
Maha Bandha is a symbol of the great lock, respectively being one of the four preceding locks. This bandha includes the performance of all locks at once in the form of an independent practice, an element of pranayama (breathing complex) or mudra (special gestures and positions).
Benefits
The main goal is to unite prana (the energy of Cosmos and life) and apana (the energy of excretory processes) in the Manipura chakra (sacral solar plexus). This technique of the great lock leads to the merging of these two energies.
In addition, the exercise has a number of positive characteristics:

Technique
The practice can be performed using asanas:
- Siddhasana;
- Half Lotus.
For practice, you should choose the most comfortable posture for the body. A position in which muscles do not pull, there is no difficulty with inhalations and exhalations.
- Take a sitting position on the floor.
- Take a slow deep breath and exhale.
- Perform all bandhas in the following order: Jalandhara , Uddiyana and Mula .
- Hold your breath.
- With breath held, release the bandhas in reverse order: Mula, Uddiyana and Jalandhara.
- Inhale.
- Restore breathing.
The fourth stage of the technique - breath holding should be carried out with caution and take as long as the body is comfortable without oxygen. You need to focus on your own capabilities.It is recommended to perform no more than 9 cycles of Maha Bandha per session, gradually increasing the number of repetitions. Practice should be constant - daily or several times a week. Mastering this technique makes it possible to improve health and develop vitality and energy.
