Legend
In an ancient kingdom lived a very righteous merchant. He was loved and revered by all for building temples, digging wells, planting fruit orchards, and devotedly serving the Lord. This merchant had 5 sons, the youngest of whom was a great sinner. The sinner son led a dissolute life, loved alcohol, gambling, and the company of prostitutes. Thus, he squandered his father’s wealth for a long time. One day, the father’s patience ran out, and he expelled his fallen son; all his relatives and family supported him. To survive, the son began selling his accumulated clothes and jewelry; when he ran out of everything, he began begging and stealing. Several times he was caught stealing, but remembering his father’s merits, he was released. But even the guards’ patience ran out, and after another theft, he was taken to the king, who expelled him from his kingdom and threatened him with more serious punishment if he returned. In despair, the sinner settled in the forest and began to feed himself by killing animals, becoming more and more desperate and sinking into sins.During another hunt, he saw a sacred sage performing ablutions in the river. As the sage passed by the sinner, a few drops of water flowing from the sage’s clothes fell on him. This allowed him to clearly realize everything he had done and begin to regret it. At that very moment, he fell to his knees before the saint and begged him to tell him a way to purify himself. The sage, seeing the despair in his eyes, spoke of the sacred Mohini Ekadashi and how to observe it correctly. The sinner strictly followed the instructions for observing the fast and was able to cleanse himself of his sins and subsequently ascend to the abode of the Lord.
