Rama Ekadashi Post

Rama Ekadashi is observed in the month of Kartika.

Legend

A great king had a daughter whom he married to a handsome prince. The king was very religious and strictly observed sacred fasts. It was forbidden to even feed or water the animals that belonged to him.One day on Rama Ekadashi, the daughter’s husband was very sick and weak to the point that he could not fast. But knowing how strict his father-in-law was, he still decided to keep the fast. At dawn, at the end of the fast, the prince died and as a reward for his devotion, the gods made him ruler of a beautiful city with a luxurious palace. At that time, a sage was wandering through the sacred places. He visited the prince’s palace and, amazed by its beauty, asked how he got such a magnificent city. To which the prince replied that he received all this for the merit of observing the sacred Ekadashi. He also added that it was all temporary and only his wife could make this place eternal. Having heard all this, the sage promised that he would find his wife and tell her everything.Hearing that her husband was alive, the daughter of the great king immediately went with the sage to the prince’s city. When they finally met, the wife sacrificed all her merits accumulated throughout her life from observing Ekadashi to her husband and thereby helped to perpetuate the prince’s reign. After that they lived happily in this palace.
